Sierpinski Symphony

Fractals are always mind-blowing.  One could regard fractals as a series of ordered frequencies. This project is an experiment trying to explore the rules within, and to present it with sound, which is another incarnation of frequencies.

I used a traditional way to generate the Sierpinski Triangle: Firstly, randomly pick a dot A inside the original triangle, then mark the midpoint between A and a randomly picked vertex, as B. Next mark out the midpoint between B and another ramdomly picked vertex, as C. We let the computer repeat this operation every 2 milliseconds, wait until more than 1 minute and one could see a clear Sierpinski Triangle is formed.

So I made this patch in Max/MSP to achieve the above sequence, and transported every step's coordinate (as MIDI signal) into Pure Data to make a corresponding sequence of sound.

The following sound track is entirely generated by the signals from Sierpinski Triangle using GM Bank only.

120 secs
360+ secs

And here's some alternations of it, by slightly changing the equation in the main patch.
